In 1966 several Lions signed personal notes to purchase the present location of the Colorado Lions Camp. In 1969 our present lodge was dedicated with a mission to provide an outdoor experience and learning situation for the visually impaired. Since then several other buildings have been constructed and our mission has expanded to provide services for hearing impaired and developmentally delayed individuals. We have progressed from providing mostly a recreational centered experience to providing a learning experience for our youth. The number of campers we provide services to has grown significantly to over 200 disabled children each summer. We measure increased independent living skills through utilization of evaluations that monitor campers basic living skill levels at the beginning of camp and compare those same skill levels at the end of each camp session. These evaluations provide objective data to demonstrate learning gains. We believe the outcome measurement place the Colorado Lions Camp on the innovative edge of International camping.
